I had the chance to ride Flat Rock Ranch last Saturday and was overall very impressed with all aspects of the course. Though a two hour drive, this is a must ride for any Austinite. The course consists of 2 sections called the Lower and Upper loops. The switch backs and climbs will make it difficult for any rider that's not in pristine shape. I would rate the technicality level as intermediate. The views and change of terrain keep it interesting.
This will be the 4th year running for the event, and Lance Armstrong has been known as a regular the past 2. When registering today, I was told there have been 2 additional miles added to the course (28/half 56/full). I'm staying in a great B&B tonight called the Meyer, and had dinner at the Texas Bistro, the foodie find of the Historic District. My goal is to finish the race (half) in 3 hours. I will post my results tomorrow!
